West Ham United have enquired about Switzerland forward Breel Embolo, according to reports.
Embolo made his first-team breakthrough with Swiss Super League outfit Basel. He netted 17 goals from his 40 outings in 2014/15.
This led to his move to Schalke in 2016 for €20m plus add-ons. After three seasons, he joined their Bundesliga rivals Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Embolo grabbed six goals and six assists for the German side in 2020/21 from his 41 outings. This led to him representing Switzerland at Euro 2020.
The forward scored in their tournament opener against Wales and he featured in all of their games as they reached the quarter-final stage.
They add that David Moyes‘ side have around £30m to spend on a new striker this summer. It is also suggested that money can be invested elsewhere if they can agree a loan deal for Embolo.
Earlier this month, Hammers legend Paulo Di Canio suggested that it is “no coincidence” that Declan Rice is attracting interest from other clubs:
The midfielder enjoyed a stellar season with West Ham in 2020/21 as he helped them secure a place in the Europa League.
Rice took this great form into Euro 2020 with England. Alongside Kalvin Phillips, the 22-year-old shone for his country as he helped Gareth Southgate’s side reach the final of the tournament.
Di Canio: “They were incredible and made them [England] nearly impossible to beat.
“He’s a fantastic guy because he’s a specialist in this position in midfield.
“They were incredible and made them [England] nearly impossible to beat.
“Rice became the third central defender against Ukraine and he sorted out any problems, he’s a very, very good player.
“It’s no coincidence that in England you hear about Chelsea interest.
“To have Rice at this time in his career with the prospects that he can become one of the best in his position with his physical presence. He’s one of the best.”
