There’s no soccer action on Friday at the Olympics, but the women and men will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, with the second round of group matches.

The most recent matches were played by the men, who opened their Olympic soccer tournament to the tune of a couple of major upsets on Thursday. The key stories of that matchday follow below:

Brazil knock off Germany: In the big match of the round, Brazil won 4-2 behind a 29-minute Richarlison hat trick. Germany mounted a comeback from 3-0 down to make it 3-2 late, but fell short.

Argentina lose: The Albiceleste conceded in the 14th minute to Australia and then went down to 10 men just before halftime en route to a 2-0 loss. A Marco Tilio goal 10 minutes from time sealed it for the Aussies.

Mexico thump France: Four different players scored second-half goals for El Tri in a convincing victory over France, which could only muster a penalty-kick goal by Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Spain held scoreless: Dani Ceballos hit the woodwork and Rafa Mir missed a big chance as Egypt shut out favorites Spain 0-0.
