The high temperatures often seen at the Hungaroring – this weekend included – means cooling is a particular challenge at this track for all ten F1 teams.
So in this week’s free Tech Talk preview, watch Sam Collins and Craig Scarborough take on the topic of cooling, and how the teams have taken varying approaches to opening up their cars’ bodywork to deal with this unique issue. Of course, more cooling increases drag, bringing up another dilemma for the teams.
Alfa Romeo have two sets of gills, Ferrari have a large opening behind the halo, while Aston Martin have one of the most open pieces of gill-like bodywork on the side of their AMR21s.
But that’s not all, as teams have substantial differences at the rear of their cars – Red Bull’s approach using the upper wishbone to open up the rear bodywork – the video also takes a look underneath the bodywork too.
