Former Everton striker Marcus Bent has suggested that Jordan Pickford could solve Arsenal’s goalkeeping problems.

The Gunners made a huge mistake when they sold Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa last summer, with Mikel Arteta opting for German Bernd Leno as his number one, whilst the Argentine had a scintillating campaign at Villa Park.

But whilst Leno has proved himself as an outstanding shot-stopper, his ability with his feet has proved a major issue for an Arsenal side that liked to play out from the back under Arteta.

Arsenal have been linked with Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, but Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic said that he expects him to stay.

With that in mind, Bent hinted that the Gunners could be in for Pickford, who was one of the standout players at the European Championships, saving two penalties against Italy in the final.

And whilst Pickford is only halfway through his £100,000-a-week six-year contract, and would appear settled on Merseyside, when asked if he could attract interest from top-six sides following his heroics for England, Bent exclusively told Football FanCast:

“He’s a quality player. Who would sniff around? He’s played at the top. Arsenal maybe, but that means he needs to move to London.

“He did well in the Euros. He’s good where he is at the minute, but Pickford is an amazing player.”
