We’re playing FanTeam’s £1million Premier League Fantasy game this season. We’ve picked out five defenders, at different price points, that we think you should be considering for your side.
5. Emi Buendia (£6.5m)
With or without Jack Grealish this season, Aston Villa are an exciting proposition, especially with the arrival of Emi Buendia from Norwich.
During his last season in the Premier League, he created 83 chances, the fourth most by any player. With the Argentinian playmaker supplying Ollie Watkins from the right-hand side, he could be a great pick-up for just £6.5million.
4. Jack Harrison (£6.5m)
When it comes to Leeds, plenty of people will be going straight for Raphinha after how well he did last time around, but you shouldn’t overlook Harrison who’s coming in at £1million cheaper.
In his first full Premier League season, Harrison was able to pick up 16 goal contributions, and when you consider he’ll now have Junior Firpo behind him, he could be even better this time.
3. Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m)
Picking Man City players in fantasy football is always a risk, given how much Pep likes to rotate his side each week, but Mahrez could be the player to break the mould this season.
The winger has impressed in City’s pre-season so far, scoring three goals and picking up two assists, which should guarantee him a starting spot for at least the opening few matches. Last season he averaged a goal contribution every 130 minutes so if he is able to nail down a place in the side, he looks like he’ll be a great pick.
2. Son Heung-min (£9.5m)
With Harry Kane’s future still up in the air, there’s a good chance that Son could be Spurs’ main man going forward this season.
2020-21 was his best goalscoring season to date as he scored 17 goals while averaging a goal contribution every 115 minutes. Wherever he plays, he is a constant goal threat and should rack up the fantasy points again this year.
1. Mo Salah (£12.5m)
Our number one pick probably won’t come as much of a surprise – Salah may be the most expensive player on the game at £12.5million, but we think he’s worth every bit of that.
He’s sure to be in the Golden Boot race once again, and even with Liverpool’s struggles last time, Salah still finished the year with an impressive 22 goals. He is consistently one of the highest point scorers on fantasy football and he will be a strong captaincy pick for most weeks.
