Aguero’s injury confirmed, but form of Memphis Depay cause for optimism following latest strike vs Juventus

Sunday evening has proven one of contrasting fortunes for two of La Liga giants Barcelona’s attacking stars.

Messi moving on

Ronald Koeman’s Barca have of course taken centre stage across the European football landscape over the last 72 hours.

This comes on the back of the bombshell announcement that Lionel Messi, following two decades at the Camp Nou, will be taking his talents elsewhere for the season ahead.

Just hours after it had been widely reported that an agreement between the two parties was close, the Blaugrana released a statement, admitting that they had essentially been left with no choice but to part with the club’s greatest-ever player.

This came as a result of ‘financial and structural obstacles’ laid in the path of the Catalans by none other than La Liga.

Depay shining/Aguero latest

As Messi’s name continues to dominate the headlines at the Camp Nou, though, Ronald Koeman and his squad must now turn their attentions away from the off-pitch drama, and towards matters on it.

Barca are currently in the process of ramping up their preparations for the season ahead, in a friendly meeting with Serie A heavyweights Juventus.

And the club’s first outing post-Messi could not have gotten off to a much better start.

With just three minutes on the clock at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, the hosts took the lead, courtesy of the star of the club’s summer endeavours to date.

After being slipped through one-on-one with Wojciech Szczęsny, Memphis Depay made no mistake with his ensuing left-footed finish, picking out the near corner in style:

His latest strike means that Depay, since his free agent arrival, has gone on to notch three goals in four appearances for Barcelona.

As one of the summer arrivals at the Camp Nou continues to shine, however, another has today been dealt a blow in his preparations for the fast-approaching 2021/22 campaign.

The player in question comes in the form of Sergio Aguero, who, along with Clement Lenglet, was ruled out of the action versus Juventus with an injury.

As per the Blaugrana’s official statement regarding the Argentine, Aguero ‘has a right calf injury and will undergo more tests to find out the exact extent of the injury’.
