Aston Villa could sign their dream Jack Grealish replacement in Lazio sensation Joaquin Correa.
What’s the story?
Grealish made his record-breaking move to Premier League champions Manchester City just recently, and while Dean Smith’s side have already brought in exciting attacking signings in the likes of Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey, it appears they aren’t done just yet.
According to recent reports from Italian publication Il Messaggero, via Sport Witness, Villa are considering a move for Correa this summer, although they are set to face intense competition from the likes of Everton and Leicester.
Dream Grealish replacement
Aside from what Grealish meant to the club as a whole, his on-pitch performances were second-to-none, as he often grabbed hold of games with his elite dribbling and eye for both a pass and goal.
And in Correa, they could get something very similar.
Described as a “menace” in an analysis piece by Breaking the Lines, the Argentina international is also an incredibly tricky individual, who has the versatility to play anywhere across the front-line – last season saw him averaged 2.3 dribbles per game in the Champions League, which was only slightly lower than Grealish’s 2.5 in the Premier League.
They added: “His quick movement and awareness allow him to move into spaces or drop deep to enable his teammates to move forward. He can be the creative outlet of the side, creating chances for his teammates. It is because of his movement that he is able to draw defenders away, then using his dribbling to get past them and either provide a key pass or go for goal himself.
“Highly versatile, he can play on both wings or in the centre, with his wide array of assets allowing him to flourish in either position.”
Just like Grealish gets the rough treatment from opposition defenders, the £80k-a-week earning Correa was fouled 1.9 times per game in Serie A last season, which placed him in the top-15 in the entire division.
With his fellow Argentine compatriot Buendia at the club, the two could strike up a fascinating partnership with their ability to create and draw fouls, and could banish away any painful memories of Grealish.
Meanwhile, Villa have hijacked a move for this star…
