“Immense” – After stunning Manchester City, West Ham fans single out one man for extra praise

West Ham edge out Manchester City on penalties

West Ham completed the Manchester double in a shock evening at the London Stadium.

Having beaten Manchester United in the third round of the Carabao Cup, there must have been inward sighs when they drew the Citizens for the fourth round, but after they held Guardiola’s side to a 0-0 draw, the game headed to a penalty shoot-out.

David Moyes’ side were perfect from the spot, meaning that Phil Foden’s miss, with Manchester City’s first penalty, proved ultimately decisive.

After the victory, West Ham join Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brentford, Sunderland and Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the competition, with the draw to be made on Saturday morning.

Ben Johnson takes the plaudits

While the nature of the result meant that everyone got plenty of praise, West Ham fans were quick to direct extra in the direction of Irons full-back Ben Johnson. Moyes’ side have not conceded a goal with him in the side, and he was once more impressive against the Citizens, leaving Hammers fans to reflect on just what a gem they may have uncovered.
